FAQ: Why are the 14585A Arb waveforms different for the APS power supplies versus the N6705 power analyzer?

With the N6705 power analyzer, you can program both 64k-point constant-dwell Arbs, and 512-point programmable-dwell Arbs. With APS power supplies, you can only program 64-point constant-dwell Arbs.

A potential problem with 64k-point constant-dwell Arbs is when you are programming Arbs with long unvarying (DC) levels in the waveform. These will consume most of the 64-k points available leaving you with less points to allocate to the variable portions of the Arb, therefore - resulting in lower resolution for those portions. For APS power supplies, you can work around this potential resolution problem by programming a List, which may be used to emulate a 512-point programmable-dwell Arb. Refer to the APS Operating Guide http://literature.cdn.keysight.com/litweb/pdf/N7900-90901.pdf#page217?id=2368573.
